Joe Richards' Artwork

Storm

1952 fine art print on canvas. Herman Melville was by far Joe Richards' favorite writer and the inspiration for this painting. Richards' love of nocturnal sea themes and his use of dark colors influenced the choice of the black whale instead of the white whale found in Moby Dick.

Available unframed in Giclee prints on canvas. This artwork is easy to have either stretched or mounted on foam board and framed. The prints on canvas look as much like a painting as the original artwork.

The Dark Whale Actual size: 19” x 24”

Dark Whale

Gulfstream

Sea Thing

1990, fine art print on canvas. Probably the last painting Joe Richards ever finished before his death in 1992, this small painting is a perspective of the turn in the Hillsborough River in Tampa near Davis Island Yacht Club where Princess, his Friendship sloop was dry docked of a short period of time during the 1980's.

Available unframed in Giclee prints on canvas. This artwork is easy to have either stretched or mounted on foam board and framed. The prints on canvas look as much like a painting as the original artwork.

Harbor Island

1960, fine art print on canvas. One of many “Sister Ships” Joe Richards painted in his lifetime, this depiction of Princess sailing at night with another Friendship sloop was possibly his favorite theme. When asked why an artist would paint the same painting more than once he would reply, “How many sunflowers did Van Gogh paint?”

Available unframed in Giclee prints on canvas. This artwork is easy to have either stretched or mounted on foam board and framed. The prints on canvas look as much like a painting as the original artwork.

Sister Ships Actual size: 17” x 27”

Price: $80.00

1980, fine art print on canvas. One of Joe Richards's larger paintings, The Storm is an example of how his technique changed in his later paintings while his dramatic angular abstract style stayed the same. This made his move into pointillism very bold and unique.

Available unframed in Giclee prints on canvas. This artwork is easy to have either stretched or mounted on foam board and framed. The prints on canvas look as much like a painting as the original artwork.
